1. Position the Mirror Glass
- Start by adjusting the side mirror glass using the controls inside the car.
- Tilt the glass fully inward (toward the car window) and downward. This creates a larger gap at the top outer corner for you to insert your tools.
2. Remove the Mirror Glass (The Critical Step)
- Insert Tool: Carefully slide your plastic pry tool or your fingers into the gap behind the glass.
- Pop Out: Apply steady, gentle pressure to pop the glass out of its circular motor mount. You will hear a "click" or "pop" sound.
- Disconnect Wires: Do not pull the glass away too fast. There are wires attached for the heating element and the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) sensor. Unplug these connectors carefully and set the glass aside in a safe spot.
3. Release the Internal Clips
- Look inside the mirror housing. You will see several plastic tabs/clips (usually 3 or 4) that hold the outer cover in place.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or your pry tool to depress these tabs while simultaneously pushing the outer cover outward.
- Tip: You may need to unscrew 1 or 2 small Torx or Phillips screws inside the housing depending on the specific trim and year of your GV70. Check for any visible screws before forcing the cover
4. Detach the Original Cover
- Once the clips are released, use your plastic pry tool to work your way around the seam where the cover meets the mirror body.
- Slowly wiggle the cover until it slides off completely.
5. Install the New Cover
- Align the new cover (or your IRC/aftermarket carbon cover) with the mounting points.
- Press firmly until you hear the clips engage. Ensure there are no gaps around the edges.
6. Reinstall the Mirror Glass
- Reconnect the heater and sensor wires to the back of the glass.
- Align the glass with the circular motor mount in the center.
- Press the center of the glass firmly with the palm of your hand until it snaps back into place. Test the mirror movement with the interior controls to ensure it's seated correctly.
